Class of 1949
55th Anniversary Reunion
Reported by David Lee

Fifty-one (51) classmates, spouses and guests gathered for cocktails and dinner at the Oahu Country Club on Friday, September 17, 2004. Chairing the Fifty-Fifth Reunion Dinner and doing a great job with it were Pat Perry and Stan Ambo. The cocktail hour and evening went by in a flash. For dinner, some had steak and others, seafood pasta or duck and everyone had his or her choice of delicious dessert. The accompanying photos, taken by Curtis Ho, show that seventy-year olds still know how to party and enjoy themselves.

Carl Ferreira from Poquoson, Virginia and Donald Funai from Fredericksburg, Virginia traveled the farthest to the reunion. Others from the mainland were Wendell Pang from Renton, Washington, Gene Paoa and Chuck Pang from San Francisco, CA, Albert DePonte from Pasadena, CA, Gerald Lee from Downey, CA, Robert Au from Los Altos, CA, and Harry Yee from Campbell, CA.

At the dinner, Fred Siders, golf chairman, reported that thirteen (13) classmates and two guests had golfed at the Navy/Marine Golf Course on the day before, Thursday, September 16. They started at about 9:00 a.m. and finished at about 1:30 p.m. In the play for closest to the pin on the par three holes, the winners were Albert Loo, Fred Siders, Tommy Fujimoto’s wife, Molly and Hal Okita ’50. Fred Siders acknowledged the help that he got from Hal Okita with golf and recognized George Oda for the best cost per stroke ratio in the group. Fred Siders and Hank Himan’s wife, Linda, took the accompanying photos on golf.

A reunion is not complete without a picnic. The Class of 1949’s was held indoors to the surprise of no one in a class where meetings are called choir practice. Bob Ishimoto chaired this event and had thirty-one (31) classmates and spouses enjoying dinner, drinks and socializing in air-conditioned comfort at the St. Louis Alumni Association Clubhouse on Wednesday, Sept. 15.

Peter Garcia, as choirmaster, was the overall chair of the reunion and the planning involved and took charge of the preparation of the materials that went out to classmates about the reunion. As usual, David Lee took care of the myriad details in holding such an event. Peter acknowledged the assistance of the St. Louis Alumni Association with the mailings and advised that Wednesday, Nov 3 is the next choir practice and follows the schedule of holding choir practice on the first Wednesday of every odd month at the St. Louis Alumni Association Clubhouse at 5:00 p.m.
