Buddy Los Banos ‘68
Chairman, Sports Committee
The purpose, mission and function of the Sports Committee (SC) is to sponsor sports and recreational events to bring Saint Louis Alumni together for fellowship and camaraderie. In addition, participation in these events help to raise monies to support the various athletic programs at Saint Louis School.
The Alumni Softball Tournament that is held during the Presidents' Day weekend at Ke'ehi Lagoon is the most notable event. Proceeds from this event are turned over to the baseball program. Another event that the SC sponsors is the Saint Louis Alumni Golf Tournament which is held in June at the Leilehua Golf Course. Proceeds from this annual event assist the 50th Anniversary Class with the class gift that is traditionally given to Saint Louis School.
The SC recently sponsored a box/ring horse shoe tournament in the parking lot at the SLAA Clubhouse. A total of 16 teams participated in this event, with prizes being issued to the top three teams. Proceeds from this event are to provide the SC with additional funding to sponsor events. Based on the feedback from the participants, the tournament was a success and the SC will seek to have another tournament before the end of the year.
The SC may be adding tournaments such as darts, flag football, basketball and bowling. The members of the SC are: Eric Tanaka, Adrian Keanu, Brad Costales, Brian Viola, Keone Batoon, and Matt DeCosta. The committee generally meets at 10:00 am on the first Saturday of each month at the SLAA Clubhouse. Anyone is welcome to attend, however, meeting times are subject to change.
Have a good one.
