Graduated from St. Louis High School in 1979 and Santa Clara University (B.A., History); Honolulu University (M.A., Psychology); Willamette University College of Law (J.D.)

He has served as Vice President, Chairman of the Membership Committee and Secretary of the Alumni Association and is a partner in the Law firm of Coates & Frey.
